REGISTERING TO VOTE
Where: Lubbock County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office, 916 Main St., 775-1339; all vehicle registration locations: Fiesta Supermarket, all Lowe's supermarkets in Lubbock, and all United supermarkets except 50th Street and Indiana Avenue; Thriftway Supermarket in Idalou; Sanders Auto Supply in Abernathy; Lubbock substation, 5211 Brownfield Highway, 792-0806; Slaton substation, 240 W. Garza, 828-3282.
How: The registration form is a postage-paid, postcard-size application. The card can be filled out at the office or taken home and mailed in later for free. Drivers can also register automatically when they renew their licenses with the Department of Public Safety.
Requirements: Voters must be U.S. citizens, 18 years old and residents of Lubbock County, but there is no requirement for length of residency. However, voters must be registered for 30 days before they are eligible to vote.
WHEN TO VOTE
Federal, state and county primaries: The primary election is on the second Tuesday in March in even-numbered years.
Federal, state and county general elections: The general election is on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years.
State constitutional amendments: An election for amendments only is on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in odd-numbered years.
City elections: The general election is the first Saturday in May. Four uniform election dates for general or special elections are the third Saturday in January, the first Saturday in May, the second Saturday in August and first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
School board elections: First Saturday in May in even-numbered years.
