Baseball/softball

Lubbock Little League

For players ages 5-18, Lubbock's Little League features eight programs (T-ball, machine pitch, farm, minor, major, junior, senior and big league) in seven leagues.

Players are divided into the leagues on the basis of residence. The Lubbock leagues are Western, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, Martin Luther King, Dixie and Roosevelt.

Registration begins in late February and the leagues begin play in April, climaxing their seasons with city tournaments and all-star games in July.

Lubbock Pony/Colt Leagues

Lubbock Pony League is for 13- and 14-year-olds, and the Lubbock Colt League is for 15- and 16-year-olds. Pony holds its annual sign-up period in January and begins play in mid-April. Colt League holds its registration in April and begins play in May.

Frenship Lubbock Youth Baseball

For players 7-14 years old. Offers Pinto, Mustang, Bronco and Pony leagues. League play begins in mid-April with league tournaments in mid-June.

Wilson Boys and Girls Club

Boys 10-12, 13-14, 15-17. Registration begins in June, play begins end of June.

Lubbock Youth Softball

Fifteen leagues for boys and girls ages 6 to 16. Two seasons: April through June and July through August. Registration in late February and June. For more information, contact LYS coordinator Bobby Drum at 792-7111.

South Plains Girls Fastpitch League

Five divisions for girls ages 7 to 18. Round-robin schedule beginning in May with tournament scheduled for last week of June. 350 players. ASA affiliated.

Basketball

Monterey Optimist Basketball

For boys in third through 11th grades. Registration for third- through sixth-graders starts in November, tryouts are held in December and league play begins in early January and continues through the end of March. Seventh- through 11th-graders begin play after the end of their respective junior high and high school seasons. For more information, call 797-3696.

Lubbock Girls Basketball

For girls in third through 12th grades. Registration in first full week of January. Seasons begin in February and continue through April, culminating with city tournaments. For more information, call Danny Soliz at 799-3480.

Amateur Athletic Union

Teams for both boys and girls.

Boys ages 11-17. Involves about 350 members each year. Seasons begin in March and end with annual tournament in May. For more information, contact Jerry Avery at 785-0033 or 795-8719.

Girls ages 10-18. Involves about 200 members each year on select teams. Primarily tournament competition, beginning in March and continuing through July. For more information, contact Steve Maines at 794-6821.

Basketball Congress International

Local hand-picked boys and girls teams can earn berths in national tournaments through local qualifying action.

Wilson Boys & Girls Club Leagues

For girls and boys in third through sixth grades. Girls registration late August or early September, with leagues beginning in mid-September. Boys registration late October or early November, with leagues beginning in mid-November. Coed leagues for kindergarten through second grades, registration in January with play starting shortly thereafter. For more information, call 792-2889 or 792-2880.

Cycling

Chaparral Cycling Club

Located at 5728 76th St.; about 70 members; holds races, training rides and mountain bike activities throughout the year at various locations around Lubbock.

Lubbock Bicycle Club

Approximately 100 members; touring and fitness club with various training rides available: Tuesdays at 6 p.m. from Church on the Rock, Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from American State Bank on Fourth at Vicksburg; Thursdays at 6 p.m. from Texas Department of Transportation on Slaton highway; Saturdays at 8 a.m. from Church on the Rock; Sundays at 1:30 p.m. from Texas Department of Transportation on Slaton Highway. Disc golf

Windriders Flying Disc Club

Approximately 30 members; hosts annual two-day tournament on course at Mackenzie Park, weekly doubles tournament and league play. For more information, contact Cruz at 783-9380, Patrick at 798-8386 or Matt at 866-0268.

Football

Youth Football League

For youth ages 6-11 (6-8 play flag football, 9-11 play tackle); children who are 12 and in the sixth grade are also eligible to play. Registration begins in mid-August. Teams play eight-game seasons ending with "Super Sunday" in November for the top two teams in each age division. Coaches certified by the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. Tumbleweed Horseshoe
Pitchers Association

Approximately 30 members; sponsors three major tournaments yearly, including two sanctioned by the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association; sponsors one league; 24 courts at Buffalo Springs Lake.

Roller hockey

Skate Ranch

Quad hockey leagues for youth ages 7 to adults, leagues year-round; 4701 West Loop 289; for more information, call 792-0456.

The Rink

Year-round in-line (long stick) leagues for youth and adults; leagues in winter and spring; 81st Street and Oakridge; for more information, call 798-1361.

Running

Lubbock Olympians

For youth ages 18 and younger. Registration is held in May and season begins in late May or early June. For more information, contact Charles Planks at 745-5456.

West Texas Running Club

Holds club race second Saturday of each month and sponsors 6-8 races per year, as well as training runs on Saturday mornings at 7 a.m. and Sundays at 6 a.m. at the Outdoor Center at MacKenzie park; also sponsors Lubbock Achilles Track Club for people with disabilities; president Mike Kelley 765-0441.

Skiing

> Texas Twisters Ski Club

Sponsors six or seven ski trips per year, summer water skiing trips and social events, also do bowling and softball outings; for more information, contact David Jeter at 763-0055.

Soccer

Lubbock Soccer Association> Youth fall leagues in September and spring leagues in April and May. For more information, contact the LSA at 796-0796.

West Texas Men's
Soccer Association

For athletes ages 18 and older. League season from June until August. Six to eight teams. For more information, contact Karessa Douglas at 794-4017.

West Texas Women's
Soccer Association

For athletes age 19 or older. Season runs from June until August. For more information, contact president Nelta Babcock at 762-4545.

Soccer Indoors> Youth and adults with five sessions: September and October, November and December, January through March, March through May, and June and August; registration is two weeks before each session; at 118th Street and Indiana Avenue; for more information, call 745-9500.

Swimming

Lubbock Swim Club

For youth ages 6-19. Adult masters program also offered. Short-course season (25-yard pool) runs from September until March and long-course season (50-meter pool) runs from May until August. For more information, call 792-3745.

Lubbock Water Y'ers

Located at the YWCA at 3101 35th St, for youth ages 6-19. Participate in swimming events throughout the year.

Various activities

Lubbock Parks & Recreation

Located at 916 Texas Ave., Suite 202, the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department offers summer programs in adult softball, adult fast-pitch softball, adult baseball and sand volleyball. Also sponsors winter volleyball and winter and spring adult basketball.

Adult softball registration is conducted in February for the season beginning in March and in June for the second season beginning in August. Fast-pitch softball and adult baseball registrations are held in April. Sand volleyball registration is held in April for league beginning in May and in June for July league. There are also September and November sign-ups for winter volleyball, and adult basketball sign-ups in September.

Summer Volleyball League
